“I regret playing him”, Thomas Tuchel opens up on Chelsea’s star player
Thomas Tuchel has opened up on rushing his star player too early to action after his injury woes, especially using him to play against West Ham United on Saturday.
The German tactician Tuchel, noted that he was wrong to bring Romelu Lukaku on during their 3-2 defeat away to the Hammers.
Tuchel has been under undue pressure from Liverpool and Manchester City as the two clubs have now overtaken Chelsea and the Blues have been pushed to the third place in the English Premier League table.
Golden Goal NG understands that Lukaku came in to replace injured, Kai Harvetz during the match against West Ham.
But the 28-year-old was unable to add any change to the game as Tuchel also said he was not ready and not “physically” ready to play 45 minutes of football after the game.
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Tuchel said: “It’s my fault. I don’t think he is ready for 45 minutes of physicality but still, we decided to bring him on for his height because we lost Kai.
“Kai had a crucial role in defending set-pieces, which is a huge threat from West Ham, so this is on me. I took the decision so it’s my responsibility.
Chelsea will face Zenit on Wednesday in the ongoing UEFA Champions League and hopefully they will be back to winning ways.
