Chelsea make decision to sign £25m rated Ben Chilwell’s replacement
Thomas Tuchel tutored side, Chelsea could be on the verge of making a costly transfer mistake that could hunt them the remaining games of this season.
The Blues are in need of a new left-back following the injury to their first left-back option Ben Chilwell. The England international is currently recovering from an ACL injury he suffered some time ago.
The Blues were thinking that Ben Chilwell will need no surgery to recover from the knee injury, but after series of tests and diagnosis, it was concluded that a surgery was needed to correct his knee problem.
After a successful surgery, he was subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the season and that has forced the West London side into the market for his replacement.
To replace Chilwell, the Blues have been linked with a move for Everton left-back Lucas Digne and have made enquiries about the player’s availability and market value.
Lucas Digne is likely to leave Goodison Park this January after having a public falling out with Everton manager Rafael Benitez.
Chelsea were thought to be his destination but we could soon see the former Barcelona defender leave the Toffees for the Villans.
According to multiple reports, Aston Villa are very keen on signing Digne and are in pole position to sign the left-back, with personal terms between the two parties not expected to be an issue.
With Aston Villa now in advanced negotiations to sign Lucas Digne from Everton, Chelsea are likely to miss out on the left-back and this means that they won’t be signing any player to stand in for the injured Chilwell and that could be their undoing as the season progresses.
How much will he be sold for?
Though Everton are yet to reach an exact conclusion on Digne’s potential transfer, it is believed that a bid in the region of £20 to £25m would be enough to take him away.
What Chelsea would miss out on if they fail to sign Digne.
Should Chelsea fail to sign the Frenchman, they will be missing out on player who is well experienced both defensively and offensively.
Also, they will be missing out on a full back who is very creative. In his time at Everton, Digne has provided more assist than any of his teammates. Also, last season he created more chances than any of Everton player.
Conclusion: it would be a great miss if Chelsea fail to sign Digne as they would be missing out on one of the most creative left-backs in the division.
