Worst VAR decision this year against Chelsea vs Palmeiras in CWC final

VAR has come to stay in modern day football and tonight between Chelsea vs Palmeiras, the VAR strike again just about three minutes before the closing of the match.

It was an entertaining match between the two teams but the VAR decision that went against Palmeiras in the second half of the extra time have generated several negative reactions.

Chelsea head coach Thomas Tuchel lead his team for the first time after missing the Semi final match due to Covid 19. Both teams started the game with high intensity but Chelsea were more convincing in the first half of the game.Palmeiras were outstanding throughout the first 45 minutes of the match after stopping all Chelsea’s dangerous attack. The blues started the second half of the game with a brilliant performance before Romelu Lukaku scored the first goal of the match.

The Belgian international scored his second goal of the competition with a brilliant header in the 54th minutes of the match.

Palmeiras took over the possession immediately after Chelsea took the lead before Raphael Veiga scored from the penalty spot.

Chelsea tried all they could to get the winning goal but Palmeiras defense were at alert. The VAR and Referee decision to award penalty to Chelsea in the second half of the extra time have generated several reactions.This decision is the worst penalty decision in this season FIFA world club Cup because the it was not an intentional handball by the Palmeiras defender.

From the review of the incident, the defender was trying to block Azpilicueta’s shot before the ball hit his hand. The VAR ordered the Referee to view the screen after Chelsea players protested for the handball.Kai Havertz converted the penalty to give Chelsea the winning goal in the last 3 minutes of the normal extra time.
