Agent Lukaku helping new Chelsea owners to sign EPL striker after Abramovich failed to do so
Romelu Lukaku has shown Chelsea’s next owners who they must sign first amid Roman Abramovich’s desire to sell the west London club
Chelsea’s next owners have already been shown why they must pounce on the chance to sign Marcus Rashford following the Manchester United forward’s psychic moment with Romelu Lukaku.
The 24-year-old, who enjoyed two seasons with the Blues striker at Old Trafford, has struggled for form lately, having missed most of pre-season with a shoulder injury and being in England’s EURO 2020 Championship squad.
Rashford’s ill-fortune in the medical department has seen him complete 90 minutes in the Premier League just twice this campaign while also contending with the emergence of Anthony Elanga.
The England international’s displays have failed to convince Ralf Rangnick and has averaged just 55.7 minutes a game.
As a result, Rashford is seeking clarity regarding his future at Old Trafford as he enters the final 16 months of his contract, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The report adds that United has the option for a further year in his deal, extending his stay to June 2024.
As Rashford’s future at United becomes uncertain, Chelsea’s next owners only need to look at the forward’s time alongside Lukaku and that moment against Liverpool in March 2018 to justify his arrival ahead of a new era at Stamford Bridge.
They combined nicely to carve Jurgen Klopp’s side open inside the opening quarter of an hour; Lukaku won an aerial duel flicking the ball in behind for Rashford, who then schooled Trent Alexander-Arnold before slotting his effort home.
The duo showed the makings of a partnership that could flourish at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel, should the potential new owners look to get the best out of Roman Abramovich’s £97.5m investment from Inter Milan.
Whether the west Londoners look to entertain a deal for Rashford is yet to be seen. However – hypothetically – whether he’s drafted in to ‘unlock’ Lukaku or not, the United forward is a player who has the potential to reach new heights.
