Chelsea superstar becomes hero after helping his country qualify for world cup
Chelsea goalkeeper, Edourd Mendy was in action yesterday, for his country Senegal in a crunch battle with fellow giants Egypt in their 2022 world cup play offs final in Dakar.Having succumbed to a narrow 1-0 loss against the Pharaoh’s in the first leg a few fortnights ago, Senegal headed to this encounter knowing that only a win would guarantee them qualification to the world cup. So the hosts were dominant from the opening exchanges & took a deserved lead with Ahmed Fathi notching home an awful own goal in the 4th minute which proved decisive as the match ended 1-0 in favour of the Lions of Teranga. After a goalless extra time, the match was going to be decided by a penalty shootout & Senegal emerged triumpant 3-1 on penalties which also ensured they secured qualification to the 2022 world cup.
The Blues shot stopper, Edourd Mendy once again stepped up for his country as he produced a five star Performance in between the sticks for the defending African champions. He made a couple of decent saves in that match, kept a cleansheet & he saved Egypt’s 4th penalty to give Senegal a big advantage in the shootout. Mendy has been a revelation since joining the West Londoners last term & hopefully he could lead them to more silverware this season.
